Take Jesus’ Hand

by Mike Daugherty Mike Daugherty was our guest minister today. He shared a beautiful message based upon Matthew 14:22-33. Matthew 14:22-33 New International Version (NIV) Jesus Walks on the Water 22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples… Read More

“Come and Be Filled”

Matthew 14:13-21 New International Version (NIV) Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand 13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” 16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 “We have here only five… Read More

Administration

Our worship service was small in number today, but the Spirit was very strong.  We enjoyed a great fellowship.  As part of the worship we performed the sacrament of administration. Laying on of Hands for the Sick (Administration) Any person who is sick or faces spiritual or emotional challenges may ask for a special prayer of blessing. During this sacrament, ministers of the church lay their hands on the head of the person and anoint the person with a drop of consecrated oil. The oil symbolizes the love of God. The ministers then offer a prayer asking for God’s blessing in the person’s unique situation. The sacrament is usually performed… Read More

Campfire & Worship

The congregation met in worship this morning for our annual campfire service.  It’s always fun to share in silly songs, some serious songs and yummy S’Mores.  The weather prevented us from being outside, but we still managed to enjoy a “roaring” fire with the help of YouTube.  In addition to singing, several shared favorite moments from their family camp or youth camp experiences.  We also talked about creating sacred space for drawing closer to God and each other. Val B. brought the message today and challenged us with the following: • What is it that you look forward to when you go to camp? •Why is it that we are… Read More

“Plant Wisely”

We met this morning in worship to consider the theme “Plant Wisely”.  We watched a youtube video illustration of “The Parable of the Sower” from Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23.  “An Animated Parable of the Four Soils” Then, Bob Brennan shared a focus moment based on the scripture that led to the congregation repotting flowers to give practical application to the scripture and theme. Together we replanted seedlings into a pots.  Bob inquired: What do we know about plants? What do they need to survive? They need water, soil, sunlight, and space for their roots to grow. We need to replant these seedlings into a bigger pot; they have been growing well in… Read More

“Take Up the Cross and Follow Me”

“Take Up the Cross and Follow Me” By Bob Brennan (Zionsville, Indiana) Mark 8:31-34 New International Version (NIV) Jesus Predicts His Death 31 He then began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and after three days rise again. 32 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human… Read More

“Proclaim the Good News”

The theme for today has much to do with the Mission Initiative, Invite People to Christ. Our calling as Community of Christ is intrinsically interwoven with spreading the good news through words and actions in our families, our neighborhoods, our schools, and our workplaces. Invite people to share good news from the last week in small groups or as the whole congregation. Christ’s mission is our mission. Matthew 9:35 New International Version (NIV) The Workers Are Few 35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. Matthew 10:23 New International Version (NIV) 23 When you are persecuted… Read More
