Cindy Rugg brought our message today based on the theme “LIsten to the Voice”. Using Doctrine & Covenants 162, Cindy asked us to share how we experience “the Voice” of the Holy Spirit.
…Listen to the Voice that speaks from beyond the farthest hills, from the infinite heavens above, and the vast seas below.
…Listen to the Voice that echoes across the eons of time and yet speaks anew in this moment. Listen to the Voice, for it cannot be stilled, and it calls you once again to the great and marvelous work of building the peaceable kingdom, even Zion, on behalf of the One whose name you claim.
Each one of us has a different testimony of how the Holy Spirit speaks to us and influences us. Although we might wish that the Voice would come to us in exceptional ways, it often speaks to us in whispers and in small, ordinary ways.
As well as listening to God, Section 162 also reminds us to:
Listen together to one another, without judgment or predisposition. Do not assume that the answers to matters of conflict have yet been perceived. There is much labor to be done. Reason together in love, and the Spirit of truth will prevail.
Are we taking time to truly listen to one another? Listen without trying to formulate our response? Listen without by being distracted by other things?
In the week ahead, find time to slow down and make space to listen to the Voice. Make space to truly listen to those you interact with. May you be blessed as you recognize that Spirit influencing your response.
