Mikal Farley brought today’s message about “Lose Your Life or Save it?” The Scripture focus was Mark 8:27-38 and Mark 9:1-13.

In order to best understand this topic, Mikal led us in understanding that Peter had just discovered that Jesus was the ‘Messiah’ or the ‘anointed one.’  Jesus was careful to allow people to decide for themselves who Jesus is to them.  As we move forward in the scripture, Peter is scolded for questioning Jesus’ mission and how he will later be persecuted and put to death.  Jesus made clear that he must suffer and would be the one who would die on the cross.

Later, Jesus makes clear that people must choose for themselves who they will follow.  Those who choose to follow Jesus must deny themselves and pickup their crosses to follow Jesus. This lead to discussion that in the United States it is somewhat ‘safe’ to be a Christian.  In other countries it may not be safe to be a Christian.  However, God is ever present and always with us as we are in Mission.

Mark 8:27-38 and 9:1-13 are an invitation to know God is with us. Further defined by actively participating in spiritual disciplines to discover God’s love for each of us.  It’s an invitation to deepen our Ministry, forming relationships with all – and God will always be with us as we are in Mission.  More than anything, it’s a call to unapologetically and enthusiastically invite others to Christ.  Listen to where God is Calling.
