[UPDATED] Mothers Day… SPAM… Proclaim Jesus Christ

[UPDATED] Happy Mother’s Day to all the ladies out there who show God’s love to those around them through their “mothering” skills, whether by birth or by affection.  We shared in worship today considering the theme “Proclaim Jesus Christ”.  Bob B. shared the message using a can of SPAM as a prop to make the congregation consider how we live out the Worth of All Persons in our daily lives.  Before Jesus ascended, he blessed the disciples and challenged them to continue blessing others. Bob talked about SPAM being an “inferior” good that may not be something we like or something we think well of, just as there are individuals… Read More

Dwell With Us

We shared in worship this morning considering the theme “Dwell With Us”.  In our focus moment, we identified God’s promises to us in John 14:23-29.  There are many promises within those verses relating to the Holy Spirit.  Mikal brought the using that scripture, along with Luke 4:18-19 and Joshua 24:14-15 to challenge us to take personally the promises and the call to action. Just as the Spirit of the Lord was upon Jesus, it is also upon each one of us.  Each of us has been anointed to bring good news to the poor.  Each one of us has been sent to proclaim release the captive and recovery of sight… Read More

Do You Love Me?

[Sunday, April 10, 2016] Today we shared in the worship service considering the theme “Do You Love Me?”  Our speaker was Mike D. from Louisville.  Prior to Mike’s message Jami shared in a children’s moment using the story of Peter after Jesus was resurrected where Jesus was standing on the shore and the ‘guys’ were out fishing.  They were not catching any fish until ‘the guy on the shore’ suggested they throw their net off the other side of the boat.  It was then Peter realized Jesus was ‘Jesus’.  After hauling in their nets, all the disciples and Jesus shared in a meal.  Following the meal was when Jesus asked… Read More

Peace Be With You!

If Jesus came to visit me, I know just what I’d do. I’d wrap my arms around him tight And say, “I’m glad it’s you!” [April 3, 2016] We shared in worship this morning considering the theme “Peace Be With You”.  Cindy R. brought our message of peace.  She read a children’s book called “If Jesus Came to Visit Me” and then reminded us how Jesus shows up and makes a difference in our lives.  Just as he did to the disciples, he brings to us peace, the power of the Holy Spirit, a new perspective and a new purpose.

Palm Sunday

We began our Palm Sunday celebration with the children processing in waving palms as we sang.  We did our best to show the enthusiasm that the crowds must have shown to Jesus as he entered Jerusalem.  Bob R. brought our message, helping us to understand what Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem meant to the people at that time and what it means to us today.  To be continued next Sunday….

Practice Extravagant Generosity

This theme was based upon John 12:1-8.  We watched a video from world church about generosity called “Bring Your Perfume (see below)” and then considered the following questions: –      What is your “perfume”?  Watch the video on the world church website to see what that means… –      When have you witnessed “extravagant generosity”? –      How much of your capacity for generous giving are you actually using right now (time, talent, treasure)?

Worth of All Persons

Today the congregation met one final time in a visioning session to consider how we live out “Worth of All Persons” in our relationships with one another. Mike Daugherty asked us to consider two questions: 1) What is most valuable to me in my experience at church? and 2) What is needed from me at church? Our discussion led us to summarize our responses into two categories that we both valued and needed to share with the congregation.  The first area included understanding, grace, honesty/vulnerability, service and diversity.  The second included community, friendship, fellowship and support of one another. All of these fall under our desire to be a blessing… Read More

Sojourn in the Wilderness

We gathered in worship today considering the theme “Sojourn in the Wilderness”.  I know, I know, that was supposed to be last week’s theme.  Since we didn’t use it last week, it was the presider and speaker’s prerogative to use it today.  Did you know that a sojourn is “a temporary stay”?  So, the theme can be translated as “a temporary stay in the wilderness”.  Just as Jesus spent time in the wilderness, so do each of us.  Especially during this Lenten season, we are called to intentionally go into the wilderness to focus on God and where we are being led.  We know this time in the wilderness will… Read More
